For our first free weekend, I decided to plan a trip.  When looking up day trips from Granada, I stumbled upon the city Nerja.  Nerja is about an hour and a half from Granada and has some beautiful caves.  Our day, or should I say night, started out by endlessly searching for bus tickets.  My roommate, Magaly Mendoza, and I stayed up until 2 am trying to find a way to get to Nerja.  After not luck with the bus system we went to sleep with no plan and told everyone to just meet at the bus station by 10am.

Well, we arrived to the bus station only to find out that the next bus wasn’t leaving until the afternoon.  Since we wanting to spend as much time as possible in Nerja, we decided to just rent a car for the day.  Gabriel Almonte was the only one out of our group of five who knew how to drive a stick shift, so he became the designated driver for the day.  After everything with the car rental place was handled, we were off, but we had no clue where we were going.  One of the students in our group, Nathan Muntz, volunteered to be the navigator and used his phone to get the directions.  After a quick hour and a half car trip, we arrived to Nerja.  By then it was about 1pm so we decided to eat the picnic lunches that our host families prepared for us.  After lunch we were ready to see the amazing caves.  While walking around trying to find the entrance, we saw a man who worked for the cave tours.  Gabriel kindly asked the man where we could get tickets for the caves.  The man informed us that the caves weren’t open yet for the year.  After hearing this we were devastated.  After all the trouble we went through just to get to Nerja, the caves were closed.  Well since we couldn’t see the caves, we just decided to do a bus tour of the area.   At the bus tour counter, the teller informed us that the caves were indeed open.  The other worker was just mistaken.  We couldn’t have been happier; all five of us immediately bought our tickets and went inside the caves.

After spending a couple of hours exploring the caves and getting some awesome pictures, we decided to go to the beach and enjoy the water. After walking for at least 45 minutes up and down some steep hills and getting lost several times, we finally had our toes in the sand.  We ended up spending the rest of the day relaxing on the beach and enjoying each other’s company.  After the beach we decided to head back to Granada and enjoy some dinner.  Vanessa Santana also suggested we get some gelato to make the day even better.  Even with all the obstacles we faced today, the day couldn’t of been more perfect and we all grew closer together as friends.
